Is your toilet starting to show signs of wear and tear? Are you noticing leaks, cracks, or other issues that are making it less effective and efficient? It may be time to replace your toilet.
There are several signs that indicate it’s time for a new toilet. One of the most common signs is frequent clogging. If you find yourself reaching for the plunger more often than not, it may be a sign that your toilet is no longer functioning properly. Other signs include cracks in the porcelain, leaks around the base of the toilet, or a constantly running toilet.
Replacing a toilet may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and knowledge, it can be done relatively easily.
1. Turn off the water supply: Before you begin replacing your toilet, make sure to turn off the water supply by shutting off the valve located behind or near the base of the toilet.
2. Remove any remaining water: To prevent any spills or leaks during removal, use a sponge or towel to soak up any remaining water in the tank and bowl.
3. Disconnect the water supply line: Use an adjustable wrench to disconnect the water supply line from both ends – at uncover details the wall and at the bottom of the tank.
4. Remove bolts holding down toilet: There are typically two bolts securing your toilet to floor – remove these using an adjustable wrench.
5. Lift and remove old toilet: Carefully lift up on either side of your old toilet until it comes free from its seal against floor drainpipe flange; then lift straight up until clear of floor drainpipe flange.
6. Clean area thoroughly: Use a putty knife or scraper tool to remove any wax residue left behind from old wax ring before installing new one; also clean around floor drainpipe flange so there is no debris blocking proper seal when installing new wax ring later on
7.Install new wax ring: Place new wax ring onto bottom outlet horn (located underneath bowl) – make sure it fits snugly into place without gaps between edges
8.Set new Toilet in place : Lower bowl onto floor drainpipe flange ensuring proper alignment with bolt holes; press down firmly until seated securely against floor
9.Reconnect Water Supply Line : Reattach flexible hose connecting back wall-mounted valve where shut-off was turned earlier as well as lower end mounted underside tank inlet shank fitting
10.Tighten Bolts Securely : Securely tighten nuts securing washers over corresponding bolt threads located beneath each side edge base using adjustable wrenches if needed
